The White HouseOffice of the Press Secretary
For Immediate ReleaseApril 13, 2017
Remarks by President Trump in Meeting with I-85 Bridge First Responders
Roosevelt Room — 2:26 P.M. EDT
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you, everybody. Sit down, please. Come on, get up here with me, everybody.
CHIEF BAKER: Sir, I bring you greetings on behalf of our honorable mayor, Mayor Kasim Reed. And our men and women of the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department would like to present you with a token of our appreciation.
THE PRESIDENT: That is beautiful. I think I should leave it right here, right? It fits so well. Thank you.
CHIEF BAKER: Thank you, sir.
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much. I didn’t know I was going to get such a nice — that is fantastic. Thank you, how are you?
CHIEF BAKER: I’m fine, sir.
THE PRESIDENT: We’re going to go around and introduce ourselves, okay? We’ll do this first. You know, these folks back here, they’re very famous — most of them — it’s called the media. (Laughter.) They’re very honorable people. But you are more honorable, I can tell you that.
CHIEF BAKER: Thank you, sir.
THE PRESIDENT: So I’m honored to be here with you today and welcome you to the White House. The heroes who responded to the terrible bridge collapse on I-85 two weeks ago in Atlanta. That was something. The whole world was watching that one. Today we’re joined by members of the Georgia State Patrol, the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department, and the Atlanta Police Department — great people. On that day, Georgia State police and Atlanta police took fast action to get motorists away from danger. Then, our brave firefighters battled 40-foot flames, which was incredible. What was the reason for those flames? It was something underneath that just was very combustible?
CHIEF BAKER: Yes, sir.
THE PRESIDENT: Yeah, those flames were amazing. They pulled back, by battalion chiefs, and just minutes before the bridge itself collapsed and everybody was safe. That was an amazing thing, and everybody was watching. Your skill and courage saved many lives and represented true strength, and the true strength of America. Really great job, fellas. I’m proud of you. Great job.
To the people of Georgia who were affected by the collapse, my administration stands with you. We’ve already made a $10 million emergency relief fund available. And I called your governor, who I know very well — he’s a terrific guy — and I approved it literally the day that it happened. I had a feeling you’d need a little money — (laughter) — because I look like a big money deal, right, Elaine? But I approved it immediately, and Elaine took care of it, and we gave fast action.
What happened in Atlanta is a painful reminder of the critical importance of infrastructure. We’re going to be doing a lot with infrastructure. You’ll be seeing that over the coming weeks — a tremendous amount. I’m committed to funding a massive nationwide infrastructure program to rebuild, repair, and construct the roads and bridges of the future of this country. This is necessary as a matter of both safety and economic growth, and it’s necessary to improve our quality of life as Americans.
We will also continue to seek proper funding for law enforcement and public safety in our country. On behalf of the entire nation, I salute you — you’re really amazing people — and I honor your service. I pledge that you will have the support of our country — the police, the firefighters, first responders — you will always have the support of President Trump. I think you know that very well. And I thank you for the great job and the fast action. Really fantastic. A lot of bravery.
Maybe we could just go around and introduce yourselves. And, who knows, maybe you’ll become a movie star after this. (Laughter.) After all this, you’ll become a movie star. If they like the way you look or sound, you’ll become a star.
CHIEF BAKER: Well, thank you again, sir. My name is Joel Baker, the fire chief of the city of Atlanta Fire Rescue Department.
THE PRESIDENT: And how tall are you, Joel?
CHIEF BAKER: I’m 6’6″, sir.
THE PRESIDENT: That’s all? I thought it was much more than that. I think you’re taller than that. (Laughter.) Okay, good. Thank you very much. I appreciate it.
MR. BURKETT: I’m Trooper Thomas Burkett with the Georgia State Patrol.
MR. HEALD: And I’m Sergeant Ryan Heald from the Atlanta Police Department.
MR. MCLEMORE: I’m Battalion Chief James McLemore from the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department.
MR. GIUNTA: I’m Trooper John Giunta with the Georgia State Patrol.
MR. CAMPBELL: I’m Sergeant Anthony Campbell, Atlanta Fire Rescue Airport Division.
MR. BAKER: I’m senior police officer Michael Baker from the Atlanta Police Department.
SECRETARY CHAO: Elaine Chao, Secretary of Transportation.
MR. ADKINS: Captain Arthur Adkins, Atlanta Fire Rescue Department.
MR. TISDALE: I’m Trooper Harold Tisdale, Jr. with the Georgia State Patrol.
MR. MCKOY: Trooper First Class Kendell McKoy, Georgia State Patrol.
MR. BOSSERT: I’m Tom Bossert. I’m the President’s Homeland Security Advisor.
MR. HATCHER: Battalion Chief Douglas Hatcher, Atlanta Fire Rescue Department.
MR. KUSRA: Sergeant First Class Thomas Kustra with Georgia State Patrol.
MR. BRYANT: Assistant Chief of Atlanta Police Department, Rodney Bryant.
THE PRESIDENT: Great, Rodney. Well, thank you very much. So who’s the bravest person in this room? That’s what I want to know. Raise your hands if you’re the bravest person. Huh? Maybe it’s — (laughter) — I thought so. I thought so.
SECRETARY CHAO: Do you want —
THE PRESIDENT: Go ahead.
MR. CRONIN: Sergeant First Class John Cronin, Georgia State Patrol.
MR. SEVERANCE: Officer Ryan Severance with the Atlanta Police Department.
THE PRESIDENT: Elaine, would you like to say something?
SECRETARY CHAO: Mr. President, beside you and around you are true heroes of our country. They demonstrate courage, steadfastness, commitment, and fealty to their oaths to serve our communities in need.
This fire was reported at 6:12 p.m., right in the middle of rush hour, on March 30th. By 6:20, this team was on site addressing the issues. Governor Nathan Deal also deserves some credit because he has, as a matter of policy, pre-positioned state troopers around I-85 to move any traffic incident right out of the way. So that helped a great deal. By 7:00, the bridge had collapsed. By 8:00, these brave men, leaders of their own communities, basically had the fire under control. The U.S. Department of Transportation was on site, and we worked hand-in-hand with these great heroes. And as you mentioned, $10 million from your administration went out within one hour of the governor making this request.
The good story following all of this is also that the repairs and recovery of this whole scene will occur very quickly. You will like them, because they will come in under budget and on time.
THE PRESIDENT: That’s good. I love to hear the words “under budget” and “under schedule,” right? (Laughter.) We used to call it “ahead of schedule.” Now we say “under schedule.” But that will be great.
And I have to tell you, Governor Nathan Deal did call me immediately as this was happening, and he sort of said, could you be ready? Because we’re going to need some emergency money fast. And we were ready and we got him the money immediately.
And again, we want to thank everybody in the room very much. And, Secretary, congratulations.
SECRETARY CHAO: Not at all. Again, I told them that you are really approachable and that you would enjoy meeting them so much. They were a little bit apprehensive about meeting you, so they’re just so thrilled. And Chief Baker and also Chief Bryant, these are the two leaders here, and they both said what an honor it is to be at the White House, to be with you. And you have done the first responder community a tremendous honor by honoring them. And they want to make sure — because they’re saying that you are sending a message to all the first responders that you value them. So, Chief Bryant, why don’t you say that to the President? (Laughter.)
CHIEF BRYANT: Yes, ma’am. I stand with her, Mr. President, that this is not only a great day for the city of Atlanta and Atlanta Fire Rescue Department, but it’s a great day for all the public safety personnel throughout the country to include the department of fire, police, state patrols throughout the country, corrections department. But all the public safety really appreciate the opportunity that you’re recognizing public safety members.
THE PRESIDENT: Well, Chief, I have great respect for the people that do what you do. It’s amazing bravery. And the speed is incredible. So, again, I want to thank you. And I think what we’ll do is, when we’re finished here we’ll talk, and then, unless you don’t want to do this, but I know you do, we’ll go right across the hall to the Oval Office and we’ll have some pictures. Is that okay? The Oval Office. It is — believe me, I’ve been in a lot of good offices. (Laughter.) It is a special office, okay? So we’ll go over there, we’ll take some pictures, okay?
CHIEF BRYANT: Yes, sir.
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you all very much.
Q (Inaudible) bomb in Afghanistan?
THE PRESIDENT: It was really another successful job. We’re very, very proud of our military. Just like we’re proud of the folks in this room, we’re so proud of our military. And it was another successful event.
Q Did you authorize this —
THE PRESIDENT: Everybody knows exactly what happened. And what I do is I authorize my military. We have the greatest military in the world, and they’ve done their job as usual. So we have given them total authorization, and that’s what they’re doing. And, frankly, that’s why they’ve been so successful lately. If you look at what’s happened over the last eight weeks and compare that really to what’s happened over the last eight years, you’ll see there’s a tremendous difference — tremendous difference.
So we have incredible leaders in the military, and we have incredible military. And we are very proud of them. And this was another very, very successful mission.
Thank you very much.
Q Does this send a message to North Korea?
THE PRESIDENT: I don’t know if this sends a message. It doesn’t make any difference if it does or not. North Korea is a problem. The problem will be taken care of. I will say this: I think China has really been working very hard. I have really gotten to like and respect, as you know, President Xi. He’s a terrific person. We spent a lot of time together in Florida. And he’s a very special man, so we’ll see how it goes. I think he’s going to try very hard.

“The Law is very clear, the President has broad powers to keep this country safe and to limit access to people that could come into this country and do us harm.”Sean Spicer
Sean Spicer, White House press secretary, spoke with Brian Killmeade of Fox and Friends today. He said that “the law is very clear in that the President has broad powers to keep this country safe and to limit access to people who could come into this country and do us harm.” Spicer also said that “the President utilized that power in a very “legal and constitutional manner” to ensure that our people are safe, our Country is safe, our institutions are safe.”
“It is somewhat sad to see a judge go ROUGE like this.”
Press Secretary Spicer also added that: “It is a shame that we are not focused more on making sure that we are applauding the decision by the President to make a renewed effort to keep this country safe.”
One very important thing the left forgets, is that President Trump issued this order a few days into his presidency. It is quite obvious that no one is giving President Trump enough time to settle into his role and prove himself. As usual, the left always jumps the gun.
As we all have seen, last week was marred by organized, leftist, anarchists thugs that looted and burned down private property, claiming that they were protesting. The first amendment does to give these thugs the right to destroy private property. They will soon find this out the next time they attempt to burn down a town.
Last week I reported the following:
Federal immigration law also includes Section 1182(f), which states: “Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.”
Trump’s executive order also expressly relies on an Obama-era provision of the immigration law, Section 1187(a)(12), which governs the Visa Waiver Program. This statute empowers the executive branch to waive the documentation requirements for certain aliens. In it, Congress itself expressly discriminates based on country of origin. Under this provision, Congress provides that an alien is eligible for the waiver only if he or she has not been present (a) in Iraq or Syria any time after March 1, 2011; (b) in any country whose government is designated by the State Department as “repeatedly provid[ing] support for acts of international terrorism”; or (c) in any country that has been designated by the Department of Homeland Security as a country “of concern.”
So, again, it’s not a Muslim ban. In some ways, it’s a major departure from what the Obama administration executed, though with fewer snowflakes protesting. And it’s legal.
Hopefully, we won’t have to go through this much drama every time the left doesn’t understand the Constitution and the presidential powers.
Pamela Geller Facebook Livestream 1/27/2017
“EVERYBODY NOW EXHALE!!! This is what freedom is supposed to look like. We have been set free. Everyday is Christmas! Less than a week since President Trump took office and he has delivered on his campaign promises.” And, Yes, as Pamela Geller says, “we have been living under the boot of leftist autocrats.”
What an exciting week of positive happenings. President Trump has really has given us back a feeling of control and well-being. When was the last time we heard these many positives happening so fast, so close, so real. We must keep bowing our heads to God, praying for Him to continue protecting and guiding President Trump and all those around him.
I have compiled for you a list of what President Trump has accomplished. He signed these 12 Executive Orders this week:
ACA rollback. Waive the requirements of the Affordable Care Act to the maximum extent permitted by law
Regulation Freeze. President Trump has frozen all regulations now in process until they are approved by him or an agency after he took office. Any orders signed by President Obama are on hold until reviewed by President Trump.
Abortion. President trump has ordered that federal dollars cannot go to organizations that provide abortion services.
TPP. Memorandum withdraws U.S. from Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations and signing the trade deal.
Federal hiring freeze. The president has told agencies they cannot fill any vacant positions or open new ones, except’ Military, Critical public safety positions.
Speeding approval 1) Dakota Access and 2) Keystone Oil Pipelines. President Trump ordered permits for the Dakota Access Pipeline be approved in an expedited manner, including easements or rights-of-way to cross federal areas. President Trump invited Trans-Canada to resubmit its application for a pipeline permit, directed State Dept. issue a final decision on application within 60-days.
Speeding up environmental reviews for all priority infrastructure. President Trump ordered that agencies and the chairman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality work together to set up faster deadlines, environmental approval for “high priority” infrastructure projects. It gives significant power and responsibility to the White House Council on Environmental Quality chairman, who will decide within 30 days if a proposed project is “high priority.” (The president has not yet nominated a new CEQ chairman.)
American steel in pipelines. President Trump directed the Commerce Secretary to come up with a plan to ensure that all pipelines built or repaired in the United States be constructed with American-made materials “to the maximum extent possible.”
Review manufacturing regulations. This memorandum, the president ordered the Commerce Secretary to begin a 60-day review of regulations for American manufacturers, with the aim of finding ways to speed up permitting and all federal processes for them. Source PBS.org
Deportations and Sanctuary cities. This is also a longer order with several major pieces (as above, no public link yet). The president has directed agencies to step up deportation of those in the country illegally. First, he prioritizes seven groups of people for deportation. It is anyone: convicted of a crime, charged with a crime, who has committed a chargeable offense, has misrepresented themselves to the government, has abused a welfare program, who is under deportation order and who may “in the judgment of an immigration officer, otherwise pose a risk to public safety or national security.”
Border Wall. In this order, President Trump states it is the policy of the United States to immediately construct a wall on the southern border. The order directs agencies to begin planning and identify funding for the project, including sending requests to Congress. It also directs agencies to construct or contract out for more detention facilities at or near the Mexican border.
This order also directs the hiring of an additional 5,000 border patrol agents, subject to funding. And it requires that all agencies identify any U.S. aid funds that have gone to Mexico in the past five years. (We are still awaiting an online link and will post when it appears.)

UNFORGETABLE PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION MOMENTS – PRESIDENT DONALD J TRUMP – VICE PRESIDENT MICHAEL R PENCE
President Donald J. Trump’s Inaugural Speech – January 20, 2017
Chief Justice Roberts, President Carter, President Clinton, President Bush, President Obama, fellow Americans, and people of the world: thank you.
We, the citizens of America, are now joined in a great national effort to rebuild our country and to restore its promise for all of our people.
Together, we will determine the course of America and the world for years to come.
We will face challenges. We will confront hardships. But we will get the job done.
Every four years, we gather on these steps to carry out the orderly and peaceful transfer of power, and we are grateful to President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama for their gracious aid throughout this transition. They have been magnificent.
Today’s ceremony, however, has very special meaning. Because today we are not merely transferring power from one Administration to another, or from one party to another – but we are transferring power from Washington, D.C. and giving it back to you, the American People.
For too long, a small group in our nation’s Capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost.
Washington flourished – but the people did not share in its wealth.
Politicians prospered – but the jobs left, and the factories closed.
The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of our country.
Their victories have not been your victories; their triumphs have not been your triumphs; and while they celebrated in our nation’s Capital, there was little to celebrate for struggling families all across our land.
That all changes – starting right here, and right now, because this moment is your moment: it belongs to you.
It belongs to everyone gathered here today and everyone watching all across America.
This is your day. This is your celebration.
And this, the United States of America, is your country.
What truly matters is not which party controls our government, but whether our government is controlled by the people.
January 20th 2017, will be remembered as the day the people became the rulers of this nation again.
The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer.
Everyone is listening to you now.
You came by the tens of millions to become part of a historic movement the likes of which the world has never seen before.
At the center of this movement is a crucial conviction: that a nation exists to serve its citizens.
Americans want great schools for their children, safe neighborhoods for their families, and good jobs for themselves.
These are the just and reasonable demands of a righteous public.
But for too many of our citizens, a different reality exists: Mothers and children trapped in poverty in our inner cities; rusted-out factories scattered like tombstones across the landscape of our nation; an education system, flush with cash, but which leaves our young and beautiful students deprived of knowledge; and the crime and gangs and drugs that have stolen too many lives and robbed our country of so much unrealized potential.
This American carnage stops right here and stops right now.
We are one nation – and their pain is our pain. Their dreams are our dreams; and their success will be our success. We share one heart, one home, and one glorious destiny.
The oath of office I take today is an oath of allegiance to all Americans.
For many decades, we’ve enriched foreign industry at the expense of American industry;
Subsidized the armies of other countries while allowing for the very sad depletion of our military;
We’ve defended other nation’s borders while refusing to defend our own;
And spent trillions of dollars overseas while America’s infrastructure has fallen into disrepair and decay.
We’ve made other countries rich while the wealth, strength, and confidence of our country has disappeared over the horizon.
One by one, the factories shuttered and left our shores, with not even a thought about the millions upon millions of American workers left behind.
The wealth of our middle class has been ripped from their homes and then redistributed across the entire world.
But that is the past. And now we are looking only to the future.
We assembled here today are issuing a new decree to be heard in every city, in every foreign capital, and in every hall of power.
From this day forward, a new vision will govern our land.
From this moment on, it’s going to be America First.
Every decision on trade, on taxes, on immigration, on foreign affairs, will be made to benefit American workers and American families.
We must protect our borders from the ravages of other countries making our products, stealing our companies, and destroying our jobs. Protection will lead to great prosperity and strength.
I will fight for you with every breath in my body – and I will never, ever let you down.
America will start winning again, winning like never before.
We will bring back our jobs. We will bring back our borders. We will bring back our wealth. And we will bring back our dreams.
We will build new roads, and highways, and bridges, and airports, and tunnels, and railways all across our wonderful nation.
We will get our people off of welfare and back to work – rebuilding our country with American hands and American labor.
We will follow two simple rules: Buy American and Hire American.
We will seek friendship and goodwill with the nations of the world – but we do so with the understanding that it is the right of all nations to put their own interests first.
We do not seek to impose our way of life on anyone, but rather to let it shine as an example for everyone to follow.
We will reinforce old alliances and form new ones – and unite the civilized world against Radical Islamic Terrorism, which we will eradicate completely from the face of the Earth.
At the bedrock of our politics will be a total allegiance to the United States of America, and through our loyalty to our country, we will rediscover our loyalty to each other.
When you open your heart to patriotism, there is no room for prejudice.
The Bible tells us, “how good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity.”
We must speak our minds openly, debate our disagreements honestly, but always pursue solidarity.
When America is united, America is totally unstoppable.
There should be no fear – we are protected, and we will always be protected.
We will be protected by the great men and women of our military and law enforcement and, most importantly, we are protected by God.
Finally, we must think big and dream even bigger.
In America, we understand that a nation is only living as long as it is striving.
We will no longer accept politicians who are all talk and no action – constantly complaining but never doing anything about it.
The time for empty talk is over.
Now arrives the hour of action.
Do not let anyone tell you it cannot be done. No challenge can match the heart and fight and spirit of America.
We will not fail. Our country will thrive and prosper again.
We stand at the birth of a new millennium, ready to unlock the mysteries of space, to free the Earth from the miseries of disease, and to harness the energies, industries and technologies of tomorrow.
A new national pride will stir our souls, lift our sights, and heal our divisions.
It is time to remember that old wisdom our soldiers will never forget: that whether we are black or brown or white, we all bleed the same red blood of patriots, we all enjoy the same glorious freedoms, and we all salute the same great American Flag.
And whether a child is born in the urban sprawl of Detroit or the windswept plains of Nebraska, they look up at the same night sky, they fill their heart with the same dreams, and they are infused with the breath of life by the same almighty Creator.
So to all Americans, in every city near and far, small and large, from mountain to mountain, and from ocean to ocean, hear these words:
You will never be ignored again.
Your voice, your hopes, and your dreams, will define our American destiny. And your courage and goodness and love will forever guide us along the way.
Together, We Will Make America Strong Again.
We Will Make America Wealthy Again.
We Will Make America Proud Again.
We Will Make America Safe Again.
And, Yes, Together, We Will Make America Great Again. Thank you, God Bless You, And God Bless America.
Today is the beginning of Law and Order in America. Not criminal law and order but Constitutional law and order for everyone. We base those laws on ethical, biblical beliefs that the Silent Majority has had to live without for the last 40 plus years. We have seen America destroyed bit by bit, demoralized, corrupted, not only in this past Administration, but in the last four decades. Marxism, Communism, Radical Islamic Terrorism have been the order of the land. These “ISMS” are being ingrained into our culture though the brainwashing that is being done to our legions of children in our colleges. No longer are we going to indoctrinate our children with these foreign ideals. Americanism will prevail in our land. Not discrimination but the enforcing of laws in the books that have made our country succeed.
I am sitting here watching the riot in DC on Fox News and this angers me to the point of saying this: We the People are not just following a man President TRUMP, We are following HIS Ideals based on His Love for GOD and HIS laws. Trump embraces what we all believe in America to be true:
- “America First,”
- “Americans First,”
- “Enforcing Our Laws,”
- Honor and enforce the Constitution,
- Protect Our Veterans
- Change Healthcare
- Close the Borders
- Enforce Immigration laws in the books
- Allow us “Citizens” the right to be heard, to assemble, to praise the GOD of Christianity and Judaism, not to exclude others or to indoctrinate others, but to be free to praise our Creator.yes
These riots are a symptom of a deeper problem, an indoctrinated hate of what is AMERICAN. Yes, we are imperfect, but Our Flag, Our Constitution, Our Rights to Assemble peacefully, to praise our Lord are NOT up for discussion. We will not bow down to Anarchists, Communists, etc. on our land.
Just a reminder to those that think that we only voted for a President Trump. We voted in spirit and Unison for GOD, for Freedom. We HAVE CALLED GOD INTO OUR MIDST, HE HAS ANSWERED and HIS GIFT is TRUMP. We have been quiet for a very long time believing that we had “No VOICE” or “NO POWER” but Donald Trump told us we matter, we count, we have a voice! We are United, we are many and we are NOT going away, we will not shut up, we will not sit down. We are not AGAINST anyone, WE ARE FOR TRUMP!!!
To all those declaring that they will fight President Trump, including George Soros and his minions, here is a reminder. We want peace, we want Law and Order, We Stand with the Police and WE Stand with President Donald J Trump and VP Mike Pence. We pray you are listening. No longer are we going to stand by and be terrorized by riots and paid actors saying that there is racial hate. We will work with President Trump and the Law to keep this land safe. All are welcome to this new America. We all have the right to freedom, but when YOUR RIGHTS INFRINGE ON MINE, IT IS CALLED “LICENSE.”
Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads:
“A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
